Restaurant Senderens, Paris
25-Jan-10
-
Alain Senderens is a leading French chef credited as one of the founders of Nouvelle Cuisine. He was the chef at Lucas Carton form 1985 until 2005. He famously claimed to hand back his three Michelin stars after the restaurant was relaunched, saying he could not charge an affordable price for meals while keeping up the standards Michelin required. As a result Senderens stated that the customers pay a third of the former prices, return more often, and the profits are nearly four times of what they were.

Sliders – Not just mini hamburgers
20-Jan-10
-
A slider is something very specific. It is not just a mini hamburger. It's a thin, thin slip of beef, cooked on a griddle with onions and pickles piled atop patty. The steam from the onions does as much cooking as the griddle. The buns are placed atop the onions, absorbing the pungent aroma and flavor.

"The LOPPSI law, which could be voted on in March, will make filtering the French Internet a reality, "the Chinese way" (…) If nothing is done, within a year, not only might Big Brother-like spyware be mandatory on every French computer, but everything that goes through its pipes could be scanned."

The Rumpus: Do you save everything ever entered into Facebook at any time, whether or not it’s been deleted, untagged, and so forth?
Facebook Employee: That is essentially correct at this moment.
Rumpus: When you say “click on somebody’s profile,” you mean you save our viewing history?

In 2008, Noah Everett wanted to share photos on Twitter. Since there was no way to do it, he grabbed an old server and created Twitpic as a side project. This program will show you how he did it, but before you listen to it, I want to give you some numbers:
- In terms of traffic, Alexa says Twitpic is a top 100 site
- In 2009, the site did over $1.5 million in ad sales
- For every million in sales, the company keeps $700,000
- The site has about 6.5 million registered users
- Noah was recently offered 8 figures for the business
- There are only 4 people working on the site (including Noah's parents)

Pique- Assiette: Les bisons

Nice take on the NexusOne.com domain name "mistake"…
"Over the past few days I’ve read numerous stories by my peers suggesting that Google messed up by not registering the NexusOne.com domain name prior to launching its new phone initiative. My initial reaction was the same. But I quickly changed my mind: not acquiring the domain name was actually a smart move. Brilliant."

Donate to Wikileaks today

Wikileaks is a global platform for Whistleblowers, in which internal documents can be published. The idea is that arcane knowledge becomes common knowledge and the world a better place. The project could play in the same league as success stories like Wikipedia or Indymedia. Interview of Julian Assange, the most prominent Wikileaks-character on how to finance such a website. The question seems to be pressing.
